  1. In "A Dream Deferred," Langston Hughes does a great job of explaining why you should not postpone a dream.
Langston Hughes makes this message very clear, by using powerful imagery and similes. He also gives great examples of what might happen to a dream deferred.
A quote i found powerful towards the central idea was "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?" (Lines 1-3.) I believe this quote is essential in getting the central idea across, because it is a great example of what happens when you put off a dream. It kind of just stays there, like a dried up raisin in the sun, and is just left alone.
Langston Hughes uses powerful imagery and figurative language to get across his point, that you should not put off your dreams, in his "A Dream Deferred."

Langston Hughes wrote a poem titled “ A Dream Deferred.” The central idea of “ you should not put of or postpone a dream” is that you should not give up on a dream. The message is given by how he explains with what happens to a dream deferred or postpone. “ Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” I believe that this quote is so effective toward getting his message across because Langston Hughes is explaining what he thinks happens to a deferred dream. Langston Hughes wrote a poem titled “ A Dream Deferred” which states you should not put off or postpone a dream.

  3. Langston Hughes wrote the poem "A Dream Deferred" to prove the point that you should not put off or postpone a dream. You should not put off or postpone a dream, is the central idea of Hughes's poem. It means that when you have a dream you should chase after it and do the best you can to achieve it. "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?". This quote from "A Dream Deferred" shows that Hughes is asking what happens to dreams that are not achieved. What do they do? Where do they go? This is what the whole poem "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes is about.

  4. The central idea of the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is that you shouldn’t put off or postpone a dream and this idea gets across in many different ways. One way Langston Hughes got his central idea across was by using similes. He compared putting off a dream to other bad things. This makes people think about what they’re reading. Langston Hughes also uses alliteration in this poem. This keeps the flow of the poem going. “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” (lines 1-3) This quote shows that if you let your dreams slip away they might dry up. Hughes compares a dream to a raisin in the sun to grab the readers’ attention and to make his point. In “A Dream Deferred”, Langston Hughes gets his central idea to not postpone your dreams across by using many different strategies.

  5. A Dream Deferred

Langston Hughes wrote a dream differed to tell you that you should never postponed a dream. The central idea “you should not put off or postpone a dream”, means that you never know until you try. If you fail you either stay down or get back up and try again or reach for something else. That’s what Langston Hughes is trying to explain. “Maybe it just sags like a heavy load, or does it explode”. The quote that I picked is perfect getting the message off because it means, does it go away and come back or does it shatter into a million pieces and gone forever. A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes central idea is important and I explained why in my quotes.

  6. "A dream deffered" is about that you should not put off or postpone a dream, you should try to reach your dream.Hughes made this message clear because if you sit there and not doing anthing you can't reach your dream. But if you do something, your dream will finally come true."what ahppen to a dream deferred, does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore? This quote means if you had a dream do you put it off or postpone, or does it dry up and never see it again. As can been seen, you should not put off or postpoe a dream because you always want it to come true, make it come true!

“A Dream Deferred” is a wonderful poem written by Langston Hughes. The central idea of “A Dream Deferred” is that you should not give up on your dreams, you should go after them. The message was made clear throughout the poem. The figurative language and the repetition helped form the central idea. The figurative language that was used most often was similes. “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore—And then run?” The quote, I believe, was effective towards getting the message across. The author asks questions of what happens when a dream gets put off. When I read the quote it makes me feel like he’s saying that you should not know what happens when a dream gets put off because you should go after your dreams. “A Dream Deferred” is a great poem by Langston Hughes. The central idea, do not put off your dreams, was made clear through the use of figurative language in the poem.

"A Dream Deferred" is a poem written by Langston Hughes. The main idea of the poem is that you should not give up on your dreams, you should chase them. The message was made by using figurative language. The most used figurative language is similes. An example of a simile is "What Happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore and run?. This is one of many examples of figurative language. As you can see the message is not to give up on your dreams, chase them.

  9. The central idea of Langston Hughes’ “A Dream Deferred” is that you should not postpone a dream. Hughes makes this message clear by using figurative language. One of the figurative languages he uses is similes. The similes compare how the dream would disappear and how another object would disappear like it. “[…] Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun [...]” This quote is effective in getting the message across because it compares a dream that has been deferred or postponed and where it goes to a raisin that crumbles up and dries in the sun. In the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, the central idea is to follow your dream or else it will disappear.

  10. The poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is a fantastic poem that makes readers think. The central idea of “A Dream Deferred” is to go after your dreams. This message was delivered by including similes to make readers think what happens to dreams that you don’t go after. “[…] Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” this quote opens up a question making people think about when you don’t go after a dream does it just dry up and die. “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is a fantastic poem with the central idea to go after your dreams. This message is made clear throughout the poem by using similes to make readers think about the question, “What happens to a dream deferred?”

  11. In the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, he writes of the possible consequences for not following a dream. The poem speaks of several negative feelings a person might have for not following their dreams. He makes this clear by comparing a dream deferred by using figurative language such as imagery and simile. One simile, “Does it stink like rotten meat?” definitely implies a negative outcome for not chasing a dream and brings that message across because someone might feel awful for not following a dream, and rotten meat smells awful. Langston Hughes’ “A Dream Deferred” opens a reader up to thinking twice before opting to now follow their dreams by comparing that action to negative images.

In the poem "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes, he writes about when you don't follow your dreams. The central idea of "A Dream Deferred" is you should not put off or postpone a dream. How he makes this poem so clear is by using figurative language he used simile the most. One quote that I found that I believe that conveyed the central idea is "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? this quote explains what happens to a dream that has been deferred and where does it go. Hughes is saying to follow your dreams or something might happen to it.

  13. Langston Huges wrote the poem "A Dream Deferred". The central idea is that you should not put a dream off or postpone your dream. That central idea is made clear in the poem because he explains bad things that happen to a dream when its deferred. "Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore and then run?"This quote is very affective and gets his message across because its very descriptive. The author describes everything so visually that its imagery. It is clear that in this poem "A dream Deferred" By Langston Hughes the central idea is you should not postpone your dream. The author describes bad stuff that might happen to your dream so he is saying follow your dream or something might happen to it.

  14. "A Dream Deferred" written by Langston Hughes is a very good example of why you should not put off a dream. The central idea of "A Dream Deferred" is the you should not put off or postpone a dream. Langston Hughes makes the central idea clear in few different ways. In the beginning of the poem, he asks what happens to a dream deferred. For the rest of the poem, he gives examples of what can happen to a dream that is put off. "Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode?" (9-11) I believe that this quote is so effective is because of the way Hughes wrote is. It is saying that when you postpone a dream is could just go away if you don't do anything about it. Langston Hughes makes his point clear in "A Dream Deferred" by giving examples of what could happen to a dream if it is put off.

  16. In Langston Hughes a dream deferred the central idea is that you dont postpone your dream. He is saying go for it now or it will fade. One example of this is the part where says "Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun." Saying that if you dont go after your dream it will dry up and lose its moisture. He goes on and on about bad things that will happen to a postponed dream. It will stink, sag, fester and so on. This is how the message to not postpone a dream or it will dry up gets across.

  18. "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes perfectly explains why you can't wait to go after your dreams. He says that now is the time to act or else it will go away, likely forever. He also states what happens to a dream deferred using lots of figurative language, literary devices, and imagery. "Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?" (2 & 3) This quote proves that dreams can "dry up" and go away forever like a raisin when it sits in the sun for a long time. The poem "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes perfectly explains why you can't wait long to accomplish something because the longer you wait, the less of a chance you will have to accomplish it.

  19. In a Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes he says a dream should never be postpone. A dream should never be postpone means don't let one of your dreams go away. "or does it explode" means don't let one of your dreams explode if its to large and you feel like you cant do it and don't let it go away. Don't let one of your dreams go away from you.
