“A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes central idea
“A Dream Deferred” written by Langston Hughes, is a very creative poem which describes clearly that you should not put off or postpone a dream. The poem “A Dream Deferred” explains or strongly describes as the central idea, that you should not put off or postpone a dream. Langston Hughes describes this central idea by using several similes, personification, and metaphors. “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore—and then run? I Believe that this quote is so effective towards asking, the reader, what would happen if you forgot or delayed a goal or a dream. It Might dry up (burn out) like the sun, or to rot (get old) like a soar and then leave. There are very creative similes and personification in this quote. “A Dream Deferred”, written by Langston Hughes is a brilliant piece of literature, which is full of similes, personification, and metaphors. The central idea of the poem is that you should not put off or postpone a dream. Hughes made this very clear by using great pieces or figurative language throughout the poem.

  5. In the poem a “Dream Deferred “by Langston Hughes he writes about how dreams can get forgotten.
The central idea of the poem is you should not put off or post pone a dream. The central idea means that you need to pursue that dream and make it happen. “What happens to a Dream Deferred?” A Dream Deferred means you will never accomplish your goal unless you’re not working on achieving it. This mean if you have a goal and you forgot about the goal, you need to complete it.
In a “Dream Deferred” written by Langston Hughes he talks about that you shall never forget your dream.

    “A Dream Deferred” Central Idea

In Langston Hughes’s “A Dream Deferred”, the central idea is that you should not put off or postpone a dream. He gets this message across using many different strategies throughout the poem. One way Hughes got his central idea; to not put off or postpone your dreams across was by using many literary device as well as lots of figurative language such as similes, metaphors and personification. All of these add imagery to his central idea and help the reader visualize what could happen to their dreams if they put them off our postpone them. In this excerpt from the poem, Langston Hughes used figurative language beautifully to get his message across to the readers. “Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore- and then run?” I think this quote was very effective in the matter of getting across his message to his readers because it clearly depicts what your dreams will turn out to be if you don’t act now. As you can see, Langston Hughes used many literary devices and lots figurative language in a clear and effective manner to get his message across to his audience.

Langston Hughes author, poet and civil rights leader wrote "Dream Deferred". The poem is asking people what happens when people don't follow their dreams. People need to move forward and follow their dreams. The central idea is to move forward and follow your dreams. The dream in Langston Hughes poem is talking about black people's dreams of equal rights in America Some people may want to become a singer. If they forget about becoming a singer and never do it and get a job they don't want to do they may become frustrated . "Or does it explode". I choose this quote because when people don't follow their dreams they could get frustrated and explode. People should follow their dreams if they want to be something when they grow up. When you want to do something special when you grow up you should keep going and eventually you will achieve your dream.

  9. In the poem "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes, he talks how a dream could get forgotten. The central idea of "A Dream Deferred" is you should not put off or post pone a dream. It means that you have to accomplish your goal/dream before it's too late and not wait, for example having a good job or a house. "What happens to a dream deferred?" This quote is effective because you're thinking what to do before your dream is put off. Langston Hughes talks about how a dream can get forgotten if you don't do anything about it in "A Dream Deferred"

Langston Hughes "A Dream Deferred" explores what happens when a dream, is not gone after. The poem conveys one central idea, that you should not put off or postpone a dream. The message was given by Hughes when he uses questions wondering all the possible things that may happen to a dream postponed. He also states that the dream not gone after could go away forever. "Or fester** like a sore - - And then run?" I believe that this quote is effective toward getting his message across because he is stating that a dream can go bad. After is goes bad, the dream just might go and run away. Langston Hughes "A Dream Deferred" conveys that you should not put off or postpone a dream because you do not know what may happen to it.

In “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, the author explains what happens when dreams are deferred or put off. The main idea in “A Dream Deferred” is that dreams should not be postponed. The quote that best communicates the main idea is “Maybe it just sags”. Hughes Convied His message about not postponing any of your dreams in many ways is his poem “A Dream Deferred”. Hughes conveyed this by using figurative language in many of the stanzas in his poem. The most used kind of figurative language was simile. “ Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun”. This quote shows what might happen when you postpone one of your dreams. The message was convened by figurative language mainly by using similes in his poem.

A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes. How Hughes made this message clear is you should not put off or postpone a dream. this message is unclear because it leaves you unsure if the message is bad or good. “ What happens to a dream deferred”. Why do i believe this qoute is so effective toward getting his message across is because the people are curious on how a dream is deferred. In Langston Hughes “ A Dream Deferred”, how it was made clear was the readers understanding what they are reading.

  14. Langston Hughes wrote the poem “A Dream Deferred” which had a central idea on how you should not put off or postpone a dream. Langston Hughes gave the message on how you should not put off dreams by writing a poem. Although the poem is short, it has a very strong meaning. To get this meaning, he used lots of questions and figurative language. “What happens to a dream deferred? […] Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.” This quote gets his message across because first it asks what happens when you put off a dream, and eventually he uses a simile to give an example on what the postponed dream might “feel” like. Langston Hughes wrote the poem “A Dream Deferred” which had a central idea on how you should not put off or postpone a dream, and he gave that message by using lots of figurative language through many questions.

  15. Langston Hughes wrote "A Dream Deferred" in hopes to get the message across that you shouldn't postpone or put off a dream and he made this very clear in his poem. Hughes had it very clear in "A Dream Deferred" that you shouldn't postpone or put off your dream. Hughes got this message across by his figurative language. Hughes writes a short but straight forward poem. He makes his poem clear by asking what happens to a dream that you just toss away and put off, he gives similes as examples and he makes them blunt and direct. "What happened to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin [...] and then run [...] or does it explode?" These are several lines of the text. Each of which is an example of a form of figurative language explaining the gist. Whether it is alliteration, similes, personification, or metaphors. WHen Hughes wrote "A Dream Deferred" he was writing about how you shouldn't postpone or put off your dream.

  16. “A dream deferred” by Langston Hughes explores what would happen and does happen if you don’t go after your dreams. The central idea of “a dream deferred” is that you shouldn’t put off a dream. In the poem Hughes shows that there are many ways to postpone a dream. He shows us this by using figurer langue to show his feelings and thoughts about the topic. “What happens to a dream deferred does it dry up like a raisin in the sun”. This works so well because he can really see the raisin shrinking and shrinking until it’s no more just like a dream. A dream deferred makes you see that you should not put off a dream.

“A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is a poem that talks about your dreams. The main idea of the poem is you should not put off your dreams, this means you have to work toward your dream and you have to make it happen. You can't wait to make it happen or it won't come true. “Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” this quote is effective because if you wait to have your dream come true it will be shriveled up and hard to get back the opportunities you had when it was possible to make your dreams happen, before it dried up and couldn't happen. So dont put off or postpone your dreams or it wont happen. You and only you have the power to make your dreams come true.

  18. In the poem a ''dream defend by Langston Hughes he talks about a dream an not defer it. The main idea of this poem is not to postpone a dream but to take action and not hold it off so that dream you have can come to be. The message was given by Hughes very well using creative Figurative Language. He uses mostly smiles to describe the point of the poem. A quote that explains this well is ''or does it explode''. I think it gets the point across the best. This tells you what will happen if you don't take action because when something explodes usually it goes away or badly gets damaged. Which means your dream could go away or become nothing in your head. In conclusion the message of the poem is to take action now do not wait for your dreams or they could go away.

In Langston Hughes’s “A Dream Deferred, the central idea is that you should not putt of [postpone] a dream. Hughes uses several similes, also uses personification, allusion and one metaphor at the end. All of these add imagery to the central idea and help the reader visualize what happens if you postpone a dream or goal. One other statement he says is that if you do not go after your dreams as soon as possible they will disappear. “Or fester** like sore—And then run?” I fell in my mind that the quote was very effective in matter of getting the message to the readers because obviously depicts what your dream will turn into if don’t act A.S.A.P. “In a Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes shows what happens when you defer a dream.

Author Langston Hughes writes about forgotten dreams in the poem “A Dream Deferred”. The central idea of the poem is that we should not forget, delay or postpone our dreams. I think the author is telling us to pursue our dream and not leave them or put them off. If we don’t what will happen to them? When Langston Hughes says, “Does it stink like rotten meat?” or “Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.” He was descripting what our forgotten dreams would be like if we put them off. These quotes from the poem are very descriptive and powerful as comparing our forgotten dreams to rotting meat or heavy loads. “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is a powerful poem that pushes its readers to never postpone or defer their dreams.
