  1. “A Dream Deferred” is a poem written by Langston Hughes. In “A Dream Deferred” the central idea of the poem is that you shouldn’t postpone your dreams. He showed this by using figurative language like similes, metaphors, and repetition. Comparison helped show the idea of what happens if you do put off your dream(s). “Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?,” (lines 2 & 3) This quote shows what happens when u postpone your dream(s). It tells you that if you postpone your dream u will never get to it and it will then no longer be eligible to do or work towards. “A Dream Deferred” was a powerful, short poem written by Langston Hughes.

  2. Langston Hughes wrote the poem “A Dream Deferred” The central idea of this poem is that you should not put off or postpone a dream. This message was made clear by using figurative language and a great choice of words to explain his point. “ What happens to a dream deferred? [...] does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” This quote gets the authors message across because he is asking what would happen if you put off your dream. He is also asking if something bad would happen if u did put off your dream. In the “ A Dream Deferred” poem by Langston Hughes, the message was made clear by using figurative language and a great choice of words.

  4. Langston Hughes poem, "A Dream Defered" talks about dreams that never came true. He uses Metaphors to describe what blacks are feeling about their fight for equality. In line 4 he says, "Oh fester++ like a sore" meaning that when things are not being taken care of they don't go away or get better. You should never give up on your dreams because you will never know what you can accomplish.

  5. Langston Hughes wrote a poem called “A Dream Deferred,” in which one central idea is that you should not postpone a dream. This central idea means that if you put off a dream, it will most likely become harder and harder to complete. This message was given in almost every line of the poem and stated very clearly with powerful statements and figurative language. Throughout the poem, Hughes answers his question: “What happens to a dream deferred?” This was an effective way to give the message and got the point across well. The figurative language also made the idea more clear. “What happens to a dream deferred? [...] maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode?” I think this quote is effective in getting his message across because it is a powerful statement, getting the point across and using figurative language, making it clearer. This quote makes the message clearer and gives you something to think about. In the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, one central idea is that you should not put off a dream.

  7. Langston Hughes wrote his poem,”A Dream Deferred,” to get his message across. That message was that you should not put off or postpone a dream. In his poem, Langston Hughes shows what might happen to a dream deferred. He wants to prove that is you put off a dream till` later, it will never happen. He asks,” What would happen to a dream deferred,” and gives what are some things that might happen such as,” Does it dry up[…] stinks,[…] sags,[…] or does it explode?. “This quote is really effective because he asks what happens to a dream deferred?, then answers his own question by giving examples of what he thinks might happen. That way, he is giving people his perspective on what happens to a dream deferred so they won’t defer a dream of their own. Langston Hughes wrote his poem,” A Dream Deferred,” to say that you should not defer a dream. By stating his own perspective on the matter, he is clearly proving that dreams deferred will never happen.

  8. In the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes there was one main central idea that states that if you want to achieve your dream you must work towards it and not to put it off. This is the main message of the poem, it is showed by use of the constant question of what happens to a dream. Your dream will not just come to you, and if you postpone it, your dream will be gone. Langston Hughes uses strong figurative language like the quote “Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode?” That quote shows that you must follow your dreams and not put them off. The author of this poem did a great job at getting his point across to follow your dreams.

  9. Martin Luther King, the brilliant orator was the main speaker on that day in Washington D.C. He gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech which was to help inspire people and support the fight for Black people’s rights. He gave this speech like any other powerful yet passionate, he made no mistakes for what he said, all was perfect. This is King’s most famous speech, it is because it was incredible, the words flowed so smoothly and were very inspirational. “It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning”. I think that this quote is effective towards getting his message to the people of America for many reasons. One reason is because he is telling them that the worst thing they could do is nothing so it gets people wonder what would happen if I do nothing? Also because he tells the people that they can restart and live a new life of freedom and equality. King’s speech inspired many and supported the cause but also really just spoke to many. It was made clear in many parts because of the words he chose or the way he said something. It is truly a magnificent piece of writing.

  11. Langston Hughes conveys that you shouldn’t put off a dream in his poem “A

Dream Deferred”. Langston Hughes makes the message of not putting a dream

off clear in his poem. He makes it clear by using figurative language and by

listing examples of what might happen if you postpone a dream. “What happens

to a dream deferred? [...] Maybe it just sags like a heavy load,” (lines 1, 9,10). I

believe this quote is so effective because he asks the question “What happens to a

dream deferred?” and then lists what could happen to the dream if you don’t follow

it. In “A Dream Deferred”, Langston Hughes makes it clear that you shouldn’t

postpone or put off a dream.

  12. In "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes there where many central ideas. One central idea is you should not put off or postpone a dream. This message was given by how he explains what would happen to a dream deferred. He makes this message clear by how he states not to put off a dream. "Does is dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- And then run?". I believe this quote is so effective toward getting his message across because it explains how a dream can dry up or be dead and how a dream can then run or it runs away and quits. The central idea, you should not put off or postpone a dream in "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes, was clear by how he states not to put off a dream.

  14. "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes is an inspiring poem written in the early 1900s. The central idea "don't put off or postpone a dream" was conveyed by the use of similes and other literary devices. Langston Hughes makes strong examples by comparing disliked items to a dream that has been deferred. For example the time when he mentions rotten meat. "Does it stink like rotten meat?"(line 6). I believe this quote is effective toward getting his message across because everyone knows they would prefer to eat fresh meat rather than rotten. People may change their minds about the dreams they are putting off and try and work to achieve them. Langston Hughes' poem "A Dream Deferred" was an inspiring piece to get people to follow their dreams and never postpone or put them off for later.

“A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes is a great poem with one central idea about postponed dreams. The central idea of this poem is that you should not put off or postpone a dream. Hughes gets this message off by using questions and figurative language, like personification and similes, about what would happen to a postponed dream. “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” I believe this quote is very effective in this poem because it shows the question he would ask. It shows the central idea of what would happened to the postponed dream and listed things with the figurative language she used tot describe what would happen. In the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, the main idea is that you should not put off or postponed you dream and she made that clear in many ways espiecally questioning.

  16. Langston Hughes is the author of “A Dream Deferred.” The central idea of this poem is to never give up on your dreams. If you have a dream you should pursue it. Don’t let it “rot” because the older you get the chance of you doing it and being able to achieve it also grows. “What happens to a dream deferred?[...] Or fester like a sore[...] Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust over like a syrupy sweet?” I believe he is trying to explain how dreams get old and crusty when you don’t pursue them. He wishes that you just do it and get it done and not let it rot like meat. Langston Hughes writes “ A Dream Deferred” to show that one must follow you dreams before they disappear.

  17. "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes. The central idea of this poem was to never let your dream go, always go after it. If you let your dream get postponed you never know what might happen...... "maybe it just sags like a heavy load". the quote Hughes uses here expresses that you shouldn't let your dream get postponed b/c then you will have to carry your dream everywhere you go and you will always remember that you had a dream that you let go. In "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes his main idea was to NEVER let your dream get postponed, you should always go after it!.
