Martin Luther King Jr. gave the “I Have a Dream” speech to convey the audience that the time for equality was now. The central idea of his speech was that the time for equality is now. Martin Luther King used figurative language to help emphasize this point. Martin Luther King thought that all men were created equal and should be treated equal immediately. “This sweltering summer of the Negros legitimate discontent will not pass until there is invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning.” I believe the quote is so effective towards the people because the figurative language and style Martin Luther King uses can get the audience to understand his point better and can take action for equality and rights to all. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech’s central idea was that the time for equality was now was made clear because he used figurative language and persuasive style to convey it.

  3. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech to convey to his audience that the time for equality is now. The central idea of MLK's speech is that the time for equality is now. King made this clear by using lots of figurative language and famous quotes from other people. "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." This quote is effective towards the central idea because it explains that no matter what differences you have form other people that we should all be treated the same. As you can see MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech conveys the main idea that the time for equality is now.

  4. In his “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke to persuade others that the time for equality is now. King emphasizes this central idea by using literary devices throughout his speech. He uses repetition as a way of proving his point. He repeated “now is the time” to show that the time for equality is now. “We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. […] Now is the time to make the real promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.” This quote is very effective toward getting his message across to the American people because it describes how much King emphasizes the “fierce urgency of now.” It shows that King is determined to make the time for equality now. Martin Luther King, Jr. uses his “I Have a Dream” speech as a way of expressing to the American people that the time for equality is now.

  6. On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington DC as part of a massive protest for civil rights. The central idea of this speech is that the time for equality is now. Martin Luther King gives this message by repeating the phrase, “now is the time” over and over again. He used repetition to emphasize his point. “We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children.”
This quote from his speech is effective because his way of words has such an effect on the American people. And the repetition he uses with ‘Now is the time.” So once again, the main idea of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is that now is the time for equality. He gets this point across by using repetition.

  7. Martin Luther King Jr. was a powerful man who stood up for what he believed in. He gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the Lincoln Memorial. He gave this speech sharing all of his opinions and all of his dreams on how to make our world become free. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, says that the time for equality is now. He makes this message clear because he is saying that the time to " let freedom ring" and we all will become free someday."A check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice" I believe that this quote is effective toward getting his message across to the American people because he is saying that we need to work together and be united as one. This is one of the many reasons why Martin Luther King Jr. was a powerful man who stood up for what he believed in.

The “ I Have a Dream” was an astonishing and well given speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK made it very clear in his speech that the time for equality is now. This message was given through many forms of literary devices. Dr. King also said the time for equality is his dream, literally. MLK uses very strong and sophisticated words. He also makes many comparisons in his speech. In King’s speech it states “ America has given the Negro people a bad check… marked “insufficient funds”, “I have a dream that one day...transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.” and finally, “...all men are created equal.” My first quote is effective towards Dr. King’s message because it tells how MLK compares African- Americans to “insufficient funds”. He uses a really strong metaphor, as if African Americans were not enough to be living in America. My second quotes is also effective because it tells how DR. King had a dream that one day there will be freedom and justice for all people in the United States. And finally my last quote tells how MLK tells that all men are created equally. Therefore, they should be treated equally. As you can tell they message being conveyed in Martin Luther King Jr’s speech, “ I Have a Dream”, is that the time for equally is now.

  9. Martin Luther King Jr. presented his famous “I Have a Dream” speech to open the eyes of all American’s about equality, and how the time was now to stand up to segregation. The central idea of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech was to end segregation and have a new beginning for equality. Throughout King’s speech he included figurative language to prove his point to America. King made a connection to the Emancipation of Proclamation stating that the Negro still weren’t free after the Emancipation of Proclamation in 1863. “ Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation of Proclamation. This moment of decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It became a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity” ( Paragraph 1). I believe the quote was effective on America because King creates an allusion for his listeners about what it was like to break free from captivity. In King’s allusion he makes a metaphor comparing flames to injustice. King words his metaphors and allusions carefully so the people watching and listening to him understand how the African American’s felt during slavery, and how they felt when their captivity was finally over. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech central idea was to end segregation and to have a new beginning for equality by using figurative language to prove that 1963 is a new beginning for African American’s.

King conveys his message to the nation by explaining that the time for equality is now. King clearly shows why now is the time for equality and he does this by stating that if we don’t do anything now, then freedom and equality will never come to our nation. He says to put action into what we hope for and we must work hard for it instead of procrastinating to fight for our rights. “Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.” This quote shows how our nation is going to get progressively worse if we just sit here and do nothing about it and that we better do something before a major obstacle comes to place and it will be too late then to fight for our beliefs. It has to be now to make our nation better by fighting for justice to finally let our nation have freedom, equality, and peace. Martin Luther King Jr. conveyed his message in his “I Have A Dream” speech to the nation, which was made clear by using his powerful thoughts and figurative language of repetition and metaphors that related to the issue.

  11. In Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have A Dream Speech" the purpose of his speech is to have everyone treated equally and fairly. The Central idea king conveys is that its time for equality now, everyone should be treated equally and fairly because its not right to treat others differently. King conveys his message by using powerful words and figurative language to prove\show his message. "I Have A Dream one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed we hold this to be self evident that all men are created equally" I believe that this quote Is so effective toward getting his message across because he mentions that all men are created equally, so we all are the same and should be treated equally among each other. This is how in Martin Luther King Jr. " I Have A Dream" conveys his message with figurative language and powerful words, also the central idea of his speech.

  12. Martin Luther King gave the "i have a dream" speech to tell the Negros that they would get freedom. The Central idea for the i have a dream speech is that the time for equality is now. In his speech, he first restated past events. Than he said that when you are fighting, don't fight cruel and get filled with hate. He than said that they would get freedom soon, just wait. "Now is the time to list our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of god's children."(I Have a Dream Speech) I think that by saying this so powerfully, he inspired many people. He created such a good image in people's heads for equality and brotherhood that most people could not refuse. King said that the time for equality is now in his "I have a dream" speech, Than conveyed the meaning by using everything he had.

  13. Martin Luther King made the “I have a Dream” speech to convey his audience that the time for equality is now. The central idea of the speech is that the time for equality is now. MLK said that all people should be created equally and that should be judge by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal”. This quote is effective because it shows that all men should be created equal and should not be judge by the color of their skin. Martin Luther King made it clear that the time for equality is now.

  14. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 to help end racism. He delivered the message of equal rights for all men and women, regardless of race or religion, color or creed. He sums up his entire message best in his concluding sentence: “And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”” I think this particular quote is very effective in delivering his message because it speaks to all of God’s children and doesn’t matter what religion they believe in or what color their skin is. Martin Luther King clearly demonstrates the ultimate dream – freedom- in his “I have a Dream” speech.

  15. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech to tell people the time for equality for everybody is now. The central idea king was trying to convey that the time for everybody to be equal is now. And that people of other races should not have to fight or wait for their freedom, they want it to happen now. He made this message clear by adding many details and telling everyone that everyone should be treated the same no matter on race or looks and that we are all people and should all be able to have the same rights. “Let freedom ring”. I think this quote gets his message out because it tells what he wants and that he wants it now like a bell he wants freedom to ring and he wants it to happen now. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech was about how everybody should have equality and the time for it is now and he made it clear by telling everybody and stating how we are not different and how it is unfair.

  16. The “I have a dream” speech by Martin Luther king jr was to show that he wrote great speeches and was trying to stop black and white racist.
That all people have to be equal even if they’re black or white. All people cannot be judge by their color but their personality. That all the people have to be equal.
“So we have come to cash this check a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice”
I think this quote is so effective because that all Negros have to be paid with a good amount of freedom.
The,”I have a dream” speech by Martin Luther king jr. It made the speech clear because he was telling how Negros was treated by the white people.

  17. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech named “I Have a Dream” to bring his dream of equality for Negros. King made this message clear by saying that the Negros need to try to make a difference between white folks and themselves because they know they want to be treated fairly just like them. MLK said that all people should be created equally and that should be judge by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. “Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.” I believe that this quote is so effective toward getting his message across because it’s saying that he wants them to fight for their rights in a way that isn’t so harsh. The central idea of MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech was to encourage the world to create an equal society.

  18. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech in 1963 which states he wants everyone to be equal. The main part of the speech MLK spoke that it was the time for equality. MLK wants everyone to be equal and free. He wants segregation to end. He wants everyone to be as one. MLK's speech states "this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism [...] now is the time to lift up our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood, now is the time to make justice a reality for all of god's children. The quote explains that MLK wants segregation to make a stop. MLK wants everyone to go to the same school as friends. HE wants everyone to be equal. MLK's "I have a dream" speech states that everyone should have the same rights and be equal.
