  1. “I Have a Dream” central idea CQE

In Washington DC, August 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. read a speech called the “I have a dream” speech to millions of people about equality among everyone. One central idea Dr. King gets across is that the time for equality is now. This message was given many times throughout the speech with literary devices, repetition, and powerful statements. He often alluded to older documents that made freedom a right for everyone, but was still happening, so he created a variety of ways to get his point across to his viewers about the urgency of the issue. “Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation and racism to the sunlit path of racial justice,” Dr. King said. I believe this quote is effective in getting his message across to the American people because it puts down something everyone can relate to, while at the same time, it is exaggerated. I think that these were a very good choice of words that conveyed his message in a very powerful way. One central idea of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech was that the time for equality is now. This message was conveyed by allusion, repetition, figurative language, and good choices of words, and powerful and strong statements.

  2. Martin Luther King stood at the Lincoln Memorial in
Washington DC and gave an eloquant speech about equality
for all. He said, "I Have a Dream" that one day all people will
be equal. He marched peacefully through the streets if Birmingham
and Washington to let the voice of the people be heard. "The
whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our
nation until the bright day of justice emerges. King explains that the
nation will not have peace until blacks are treated as equals. It was
with peacefull protest and marches that he accomplished his dream.

  3. "I Have a Dream" Central Idea

Martin Luther King wrote a speech "I Have a Dream" for the Negros freedom. The central idea, the time for equality is now, was a very strong message. This message was given by how he wants freedom for everyone. King made this message clear by how he states the freedom he and everyone wants. "And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, we will be able to speed up that day when all of Gods children will be able to join hands." This quote is so effective toward getting his message across to the American people because it states how he wants freedom to ring everywhere and to everyone. Also he wants freedom around the whole world. Martin Luther kings speech "I Have a Dream" had a central idea, the time for equality is now, was clear by how he wants freedom everywhere.

  5. “ I Have A Dream “

Dr. Martin Luther King was a pastor, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. In August of 1963, Dr. King delivered a public speech “I Have Dream” which he calls for an end to racism in the United States to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This speech was one of the best ever spoken, it influence blacks and whites to come together and get along. Dr. King’s message was for freedom and equality for all people. The famous quote from his speech “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” I think that we have come a long way because i have friends, teachers and go to a school with different races and we are not judged by the color of our skin and the content of our character.

  6. In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have A Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial in front of 250 thousand people both, black and white about equality amongst all who live in the United States. The central idea that the time for equality is now was conveyed by the use of metaphors, allusions, and other literary devices. King makes allusions and references to things that all people have a common understanding about such as the time when he mentions his four little children. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." I think this quote is effective toward getting his message across to the American people because almost everyone has an understanding of having young children of being one themselves. Also, children are considered small and helpless, and negativity toward them will change America's perspective about racial judgements. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a memorable speech known as the "I Have A Dream" speech which was crucial to getting the message of equality across America.

  7. In Washington DC, August 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. read a speech called the “I have a dream” speech to millions of people about equality among blacks and whites. Martin Luther King Jr. Made his message clear by stating that the time for equality is now. King emphasizes this central idea by using literary devices throughout his speech; he uses repetition with saying “now is the time” to let the people know that there is no time to engage the luxury of cooling off but now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children. Martin Luther King thought that everybody should be treated equally and that they would be free one day. “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.”This quote is saying that one day, blacks and whites will be treated equally. This quote is so effective towards Martin Luther King Jr. Getting his message across to the American people because today we don’t have “white groups” and “black groups” or “colored bathrooms”. Today we don’t treat blacks and whites differently. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech’s central idea was that the time for equality was now was made clear because he used figurative language and persuasive style to convey it.

  9. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I have a famous “I have a Dream” Speech to a quarter of a million people in front of the Lincoln memorial during the March on Washington. This speech was a way of giving the Negro a motivation to march for their freedom. The central idea of this speech is that “the time for equality is now.” King explains how freedom was promised for them (the Negro) and they have not gotten it yet. He said that the Negro need to get their freedom and equality they deserve and they need to get it NOW. King said, “Now is the time to make justice a reality for all god’s children,” (excerpt 5). This is a powerful speech because it is what the Negro want. He said, “Now is the time,” which means that the Negro need their “freedom” now. He also said, “To make justice a reality,” which means the injustice needs to end and for justice to begin. Lastly, he said, “for all God’s children,” which mean that it can’t be just the whites who get the freedom, it should be everyone, blacks and whites. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous, “I have a Dream” speech which said that the time for equality is now. That is all the Negros’ hopes and dreams, and when you say that to a large group of Negros’, the message will be received loud and clear.

  10. Martin Luther King Jr. conveys that the time for equality is now in his “I Have a Dream” speech. Dr. King made the message that the time for equality is now clear many different ways. He gave details about the message and said the message many times to emphasize it. King also used many literary devices to stress the ideas that the time for equality is now. “We have also come to this hollowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now,” (5). I believe this quote is so effective towards getting his message across to the American people because King is telling the people that a main reason they are gathered is to have equality now. In his “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King Jr. gets across that the time for equality is now.

  11. Martin Luther King, the brilliant orator was the main speaker on that day in Washington D.C. He gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech which was to help inspire people and support the fight for Black people’s rights. He gave this speech like any other powerful yet passionate, he made no mistakes for what he said, all was perfect. This is King’s most famous speech, it is because it was incredible, the words flowed so smoothly and were very inspirational. “It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning”. I think that this quote is effective towards getting his message to the people of America for many reasons. One reason is because he is telling them that the worst thing they could do is nothing so it gets people wonder what would happen if I do nothing? Also because he tells the people that they can restart and live a new life of freedom and equality. King’s speech inspired many and supported the cause but also really just spoke to many. It was made clear in many parts because of the words he chose or the way he said something. It is truly a magnificent piece of writing.

  12. Martin Luther King conveys in his “I Have a Dream” speech that the time for equality is now. King expresses the message, the time for equality is now, in many ways throughout his speech. He uses literary devices to show the urgency and importance for equality in America. King also uses “now is the time” multiple times throughout the speech to put across that now is when America needs to have equality. “Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all God’s children.”(5). I think this quote is effective towards getting King’s message across to the American people because it is saying that now is the time, not later for everyone in America to have equality and freedom, blacks and whites. Martin Luther King expresses the message the time is now by using literary devices, repeating now is the time and using details that emphasize the urgency for equality.

  14. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr gave the “ I Have a Dream” speech. The speech was to give momentum to the freedom for all negroes. King made it clear that he wants racial justice for all negroes across the land. He wishes that the gov’t gives them the right of freedom from which over 100 years ago was promised to them. Freedom was long overdue and and he wishes to return it to the negroes. “One hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination.” In this quote, King is trying to get the message out that people still believe in slavery and that negroes are still not free. The negroes are still a simple little part in the world because of racial injustice. The “ I Have a Dream” speech was written by Martin Luther King and it was clear that he tried to start the flow of racial justice and freedom to negroes everywhere.

  15. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr explains that the time for freedom and equality is now. This scene takes place with the “ I have a Dream” speech in front of a quarter of a million people. Dr King’s speech explained that now is the time to regain freedom and rights after slavery was ended 100 years ago. “ Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation”. This was important because the speech was in front of the Lincoln Memorial and King brought this Lincoln reference so that people listening would remember Lincoln and his great ideas about freedom and equality. King hoped that bringing up Lincoln’s ideas for freedom and equality will remind Americans that this counry was founded on these basic rights and principles. Dr King’s speech was very effective at persuading people to peacefully protest and to guarentee these basic rights of freedom for all Americans.

  16. the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. took place in washington D.C. in front of the Lincoln Memorial. In his speech Martin Luther king talks about people having equality and explains how 100 years later the Negro’s still don’t have freedom. “I have a dream that one day down in Alabama [...] little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.” I believe that this quote is MLK Jr. getting out his message to the world because he is relating to back in his childhood that he wasn’t able to play with white girls and boys and his dream is so that these kids ( plus his children ) will be able to play with who ever they want and “not be judged by their skin color but by their content of their character.” The speech “I Have a Dream” was a very good speech and had powerful meaning and had changed the laws and now whites and blacks can join together and have equal freedom.

  18. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the speech “I Have a Dream”. The purpose of the speech was to get the freedom and justice the negros deserved. The central idea is that the time for equality is now. He used lots of figurative language and repetition. He gave many reasons of why equality is now. “Now the time to make justice a reality for all god’s children” (5). Well Martin Luther King Jr. is saying that it is either now or never for the negros to get their freedom. The time for equality is now. The speech “I Have a Dream” By Martin Luther King Jr. he gets it across of how the time for equality is now.

On August 28, 1963, in Washington D.C. in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. read a very powerful and strong speech, giving off many messages about justice to everyone called “I Have a Dream”. One central Idea of the speech is that the time for equality is now. King made the message clear in many ways. King emphasizes parts and words that are important in this speech. He also uses many types of literary devices like repetition with phrases like “now is the time” and “let freedom ring.” King also shows this point with many different ideas and devices. King alluded to older documents and speeches like the Gettysburg Address, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence that had similar meanings and ideas of freedom. He also did an extended metaphor about insufficient funds and how they aren’t getting the justice that they deserve. He also would often compare injustice and freedom to nature in ways of metaphors. ”Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.” This quote is very effective toward the message that King evoked. It states how justice is good and will be better to the nation like a sunlit path. It also states how it is bad and unfair for segregation over color just like a dark and desolate valley is bad .It also is effective by the words he uses that shows such good things to such bad things relating to him message. One of the central ideas of the speech “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr. was that the time for equality is now and King evokes this message very well with many literary devices, figurative language and powerful statements.

  20. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote I Have a Dream to speak out about racial inequalities. One central idea of the speech is that the time for equality is now. King made this message very clear. A way he made the message clear was he used repetition. He had “The time is now to…”. He changed how it affected you by changing around the words but keeping the same meaning.” Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation,” (excerpt 5). I think that this quote is important in getting his message across. I think its important because it is telling us that we have to react now or it will be too late. We need to get up and do something positive and productive. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote I have a dream in hopes to get peoples attention to the problems going on now and how to fix racial injustices.

  21. In Washington D.C. august 1963 martin Luther king made a speech about how black and white people should be together and not have to live in separate places and eat in different restaurants and drink at different water fountains. This is what king said about that “now is the time to make the real promise of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice”. This quote means that now is the time to make a difference happen and change their ways. It also means that the black and white can share the same stuff like restaurants and schools. They also can’t wait any longer for segregation to end. The whole purpose of the speech was to tell the world that black and white people should be able to be together.
