  2. The piece I chose was Annabel lee. The mood I indicated for the piece was sad. The author made me feel sad because at the beginning Edger Allan Poe found true love but then at the end the angels were jealous of their true love. So, the angels sent the highborn kinsman and they took her away and she died in a sepulchre. A piece of figurative language that contributed to the mood is personification. “ That the wind came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. i believe that the quote is so effective toward the creation of the mood because when it said “ The wind came out of the cloud by night” it seem like the wind was a person coming. Also, when it said “Chilling and Killing my Annabel Lee” it also seem like when the wind came and it killed her.

  3. In Edgar Allan Poe's "Annabel Lee", the mood is sad and dark. Poe created this mood by first showing the reader how much he and Annabel cared for each other. Since they loved each other so much, angels started to envy them. To stop their relationship, the kill Annabel by giving her frostbite. Even after death, Poe makes the man still love the girl. "That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and Killing my Annabel Lee"(25+26). I believe this quote was effective toward the creation of the mood because it shows how Annabel was killed by frostbite just because people were jealous of their love. Because of Edgar Allan Poe making a love story turn dar, "Annabel Lee's" mood is sad and dark.

  4. “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe is a short well-written poem that creates a mood of sadness and depression as well as being a sad romantic love story. Poe created this mood of sadness and depression throughout the poem “Annabel Lee” by starting the story happy and beautiful, but later having the narrator/speakers love one die. Still after Annabel Lee died from the wind, the speaker loved her even more and called Annabel Lee his life and his bride. The angels envied the speaker and Annabel Lee’s love so much that they killed her. The angels decided to bring in a gust of wind and finally kill Annabel Lee so they wouldn’t have to envy their passionate love. “The wind came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee,” (25-26).” I believe that this quote is so effective toward the creation of this mood because it explains in details how powerful the angels are and how sad, crazy and romantic the speakers and Annabel Lee’s love is. This quote can also create depression for the speaker’s mood because he just experienced how it feels to lose someone special. Poe accomplished the mood of sadness and depression throughout the short story Annabel Lee by using figurative language such alliteration and assonance. Poe is a very smart and creative author because he can create a short story, and make it so realistic, that readers who read his poem can define different moods such as sadness and depression.

  7. In “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe the mood is sad and depressing. The poem starts out happy with two young people in love but quickly turns dark. Poe creates this mood by writing in the first person. One can feel the narrator’s true feelings. Poe also repeats Annabel Lee’s name over and over to show how much the narrator loved her. The poem changes to sadness when “That the wind came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee,”(25-26). The quote is effective in creating the mood because it gives human characteristics to the wind. The angels were so envious of the love between the narrator and Annabel Lee that they commanded the wind to chill and kill her. Edgar Allan Poe is a master of creating multiple moods in his poems and it is very effective in “Annabel Lee.” Poe created a dark, depressing mood with the death of Annabel Lee by using first person writing, repetition of words, and personification.

  9. Annabel Lee
In the beginning of the poem the mood was happy (they talked about love). Then in the middle of the story the mood became sad because the angels killed Annabel Lee with the wind. They killed her because of envy over the love between Annabel Lee and Poe. The quote “that the wind came out of the cloud by night chilling and killing my Annabel Lee” showed that angels killed her because of their envy. The mood of the poem Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe is sad and also gloomy.

In "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allen Poe the mood is dark and gloomy. It is dark because its talking about someone being killed, that someone is Annabel Lee because of the angels jealousy . "That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee"(25-26). "The angels, not half happy in heaven, went envying her and me-".(21-22). I believe these two quotes are effective because it gives a negative feel to the poem. It makes me think of someone coming to kill another person. Which is scary. Finally, its gloomy because in the poem the man/narrator in the story lost a loved one and the loved one is Annabel Lee. It also talked about demons. "Nor the demons down under the sea"(31). This quote is effective because it makes me think of devils or monsters, it gives me that image of creepiness. These are the reasons why the mood of the poem "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allen Poe is dark and gloomy.

  11. The mood of "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe is creepy and scary. Poe creates this mood by his figurative language, which is mostly composed of repetition, smilies which are compared to scary or creepy things, metaphors which are also compared to creepy or scary things, visual imagery, hyperboles, and personification. Also Poe made the speaker or narrator of the story mad or insane. "... I knew it was the groan of mortal terror... stifled sound that arises from the bottom of the souls when over charged with awe"(page 2, Paragraph 4, lines 2&3). I feel that this quote was effective toward the mood because it was creepy and it explained how terrified someone was and how terrified they sounded and it creepy the reader out. Also, it sets the reader up for the death of someone so its even creepier and it was scary affective toward the mood. As you can see, "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar AllenPoe has a creepy and scary mood to it.

Edger Allen Poe: Master of Mood

Edger Allen Poe was a “master of mood” in all of his works and his short story The Tell-Tale Heart was no exception. The mood in The Tell-Tale Heart is one of suspense. Poe created this feeling by telling the story in first-person, making the main character the antagonist. This is rarely done, but was a genius move on Poe’s part because you can understand everything perfectly as events unfold. Another contributing factor to the mood is literary devices. At the end of the story Poe used repetition beautifully. “Almighty God! --no, no! They heard! --they suspected! --they knew! --they were making a mockery of my horror!-this I thought, and this I think. But anything was better than this agony! .Anything was more tolerable than this derision! I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die! and now --again! --hark! louder! louder! louder! louder!” (lines 64-66) These lines greatly enhance the suspense in many ways. The punctuation makes the words sound short and scary like a heart beating faster. The repetition of the word “louder” makes the reader visualize a heart beating faster and louder and the panic it must be causing the antagonist. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edger Allen Poe has a suspenseful mood as a result of his wonderful wordplay and literary devices.

  14. Edgar Allan Poe is a master at creating mood and is what he is most famous for in his short stories. In “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, he uses alliteration, imagery, and simile to create a scary, disturbed, and uncomfortable mood and give feeling to the story. “I moved it slowly~~very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man’s sleep,” (1). This quote is effective to the creation of the mood because it starts alliteration which continues on throughout the story. It adds a scary effect because it shows how much he is doing and how hard he is working just to get rid of the old man by repeating the word many times. In the story, “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, the author creates a scary, disturbed, and uncomfortable mood by using figurative language such as alliteration, simile, and imagery throughout the story.

  15. "Tall Tell Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe was one of his famous poems. Some of his quotes in this poem sounded very scary and some creepy. in the poem he is stalking this man and wanting to kill him because of his "evil eye". He stalks the man till he kills him. "Noises arose over all and continually increased louder and louder!" this quote effects the mood because it is adding a little panic and creepiness to scare the readers. Edgar Allan Poe defiantly mad this a very disturbing, creepy, and scary mood through a lot of figurative language used throughout the story.

  16. The poem Annabel Lee written by Edgar Allen Poe was a sad and dark piece of writing. Poe creates this mood throughout the story by showing how inseparable the narrator and Annabel Lee were. Then, the angels above envy their love and want it for their selves. So one night, the angels come down and kill Annabel Lee. But at the end of the poem, the narrator loves Annabel Lee even more than he did when she was alive, and called her his bride. “The wind came out of the clouds by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. (25-26)” This quote contributes to the mood of the poem because it shows that the angels envied their love and decide to come out of the clouds one night, and kill her. Edgar Allen Poe can turn a love story such as Annabel Lee, into a dark and sad piece of writing.

poe made me feel depressed even if I was just as happy as I could be. I felt like I was so sad and alone even thought there was a whole class in the room it makes you feels as if the whole world shuts away. What he did to make me feel this way is us alliteration and lots of metaphors that made me feel his pain. "That the wind came out of a cloud by night chilling and killing my Annabel lee" lines 24-25. This quote makes me feel his pain I can imagine it in my head of a women being so cold that she just dies. In the end Annabel lee is about a sad story that the author saves his pain with us.

  19. The author Edgar Allan Poe wrote the Tell-Tale Heart which made me feel very uncomfortable and creepy. Poe made me feel creepy because when the main character was explaining why he wanted to murder the old man with the fake eye, I felt like it was the right thing even though it was wrong. I felt uncomfortable because when he was describing the way he murdered the old man, I actually felt like it was the right thing, and that the old man deserved it. Also when the police came to investigate the murder I felt they’d never know. “For it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. And every morning when the day broke, I went boldly into the chamber and spoke courageously to him, calling him by name in a hearty tone, and inquiring how he has passed the night,” (pg.1, paragraph 3). I feel like this quote is effective toward the creation of the mood because it makes you realize that he’s killing the “evil eye”, but not the old man which makes everything seam fine. It also makes it seem better since he talks to him and acts like he’s normal and not planning to kill the man. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe creates a mood of creepiness and being uncomfortable. It does this because of Poe’s choice of words and use of the five senses and figurative language.

  20. The mood of the tell tale heart is creepy.Poe made me feel that way because of the words he used and the way that he made us feel the killer. Also when the killer was stalking the old man and when he cut him up into pieces and buried him in the floor bored. "Noises arose over all and continually increased louder and louder." This quote contributes to the mood because after he killed him he stills hears his heart beating. The mood was very creepy and Poe did a very good job setting that mood.

  21. "The mood of the Tell Tale- Heart" is creepy, dark and weird. Poe made me feel this way he made me feel for the killer and root for him. It also talked about a guy killing someone just because he had a evil eye. Which is very weird and mysterious? I also felt creped out because who stalks a guy for 7 nights watching him sleeping until he killed him because the old man opened his eye. Then talks about someone who is disposing an old man body. "Noises arose over all and continually increased louder and louder". This quote affects the mood because it is adding a lot of panic and creepiness. The punctuation makes the words sound short and scary like a heart beating faster. The reputation of the word "louder" makes the reader visualize a heart beating faster and louder and the panic it must be causing the antagonist to break. "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe has suspenseful mood as a result of his wonderful word play and literacy devices.

“Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe has a mood of sadness and depression but as well as being a sad romantic love story. This short story made me feel sad because Annabel Lee was killed. The angles were not happy with them being together so they sent a highborn kings man to kill her. Poe used figurative language such as alliteration and assonance to make the mood sad. “The wind came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee,” (25 - 26). I believe this quote is so effective toward the creation of he mood because it adds a lot of depression to the story. It also shows, how powerful the angels are and how said the speaker is with the death of his life and his bride. Poe accomplished the mood of sadness and depression throughout the short story “Annabel Lee."

“The Raven” by Edgar allan poe creates the mood of sadness. Poe created the mood from the start of the poem. you feel his sadness from the loss and his gloomy setting he puts in the first two stanzas of the poem. I feel the quote “For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name lenore- -” (page 1 line 11) best contributes toward the creation of the mood. I feel the quote is effective toward the creation of the mood because you Know he has lost his love Lenore. “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe accomplished the mood of sadness by telling us several times in the poem who much he misses her. Makeing me feel sad from his loss.
